Marian Women's Tennis Blanks No. 23 Cumberland
LEBANON, Ind. - The Marian women's tennis team won its second match of the season on Monday morning, taking down No. 23 Cumberland University 4-0 at the Farmer's Bank Fieldhouse in Lebanon. Marian moves to 2-2 on the season, winning its second match against NAIA competition.
Playing to clinch throughout the day, the Knights quickly blitzed the Pheonix and won the doubles point, earning wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Yasmin Imamniyazova and Ana Lopez Torres won 6-1 on the No. 1 court, and at No. 3, it was Liliane Alinquant and Ana Barbosa Fernandez scoring a win, taking a 6-1 victory as well.
In singles, Marian earned wins at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4, clinching the match with the victory on the third singles court. Yasmin Imamniyazova won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 to give Marian its second point of the match, and at No. 4, Jimena Rivera Flores landed a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Michelle Irigoyen clinched the win for Marian, scoring the team's fourth point at No. 3 singles as she won 7-6 (3), 6-1, securing a 4-0 victory.
Irgoyen and Flores had their doubles match go unfinished, trailing 4-3 at the time of the point being clinched. Ana Lopez Torres was trailing in the third set at No. 2 singles as Marian won the match, while Liliane Alinquant and Paloma Caceres had just begun their matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles when Marian was ruled the winner.
Marian's season continues on Friday morning, as they travel to Louisville to take on Bellarmine University at 10:00 a.m.
