SAU's Harrison Named to Capital One Academic All-America First Team

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Excellence on the field and in the classroom has earned Spring Arbor University senior Courtney Harrison a spot on the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America First Team for College Division Women's Soccer, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday (Nov. 20).
In addition to being recognized for her outstanding work in the classroom, Harrison, a health and exercise science major, was named the 2014 Crossroads League Player of the Year. She has anchored a Cougar squad that has posted an 18-1-1 record this season and claimed its fourth straight regular season conference championship and fifth consecutive conference tournament title.
The center back from South Lyon, Michigan is a key piece in the backline, helping limit opponents to just 11 goals in 20 matches for a 0.55 goals allowed per game average, which led the conference. Harrison and the Cougars have also posted the third most shutouts in the country this season with 13. Along with her efforts on the defensive end, Harrison has scored two goals and added two assists.
The 11-member Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Women's Soccer first team has an average grade point average of 3.97, which includes five student-athletes with a 4.0 G.P.A. All 11 members of the first team have a G.P.A. of 3.90 or higher.
To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must be nominated by their school's sports information director as well as be a starter or key reserve, a sophomore academically and athletically as well as possess a 3.3 GPA or higher.
