BROOKINGS, S.D. - Indiana Wesleyan men's and women's track & field added to their National Championship hardware, winning the 2022 NAIA Indoor 4x800 Relay National Championship. Josh Felo, Charlie Young, Weston Kundo, and Steven Ott edged out Dordt by .07 tenths of a second, running a new program record 7:33.93 in the race. Their time was seven seconds faster than the previous school record.
Before the National Championship performance, Charlie Young (600m), Steven Ott (800m), and Eli Fullerton (3,000m) each earned a spot into tomorrow's finals in their respective event.
- 4x800 Relay - Felo, Young, Kundo, Ott - 7:33.93
- 600m - Charlie Young - 1:19.47
- We started off a little bit off today, and although we competed well, we just couldn't quite put things together. Charlie was able to swing the momentum a little bit in the 600m and after that the day turned out very well. We have a busy day tomorrow so we'll refocus again tonight and do our best to show up and compete well tomorrow.
- Our men's 4x800 was one of the more exciting races I've ever watched. The men came into today focused and mentally ready, but none of us thought that we would need a time that was only 2 seconds off the NAIA national record and the fastest time in the NAIA in about 20 years to win the race. There were a few times in the race were they could've lost confidence, but I'm proud of their fight and trust in each other to pull through. What I'm most proud of is that when we get back to the hotel and through the rest of their lives, these men will challenge each other to be better men and Christ followers in our fallen world. They are a very special group.
- The 2022 NAIA Indoor National Championships wraps up tomorrow starting at 10 a.m. with the women's triple jump.
