NAIA Baseball Tournament Opening Round Brackets Released

Kansas City, MO - On Sunday, May 6 the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the seeding for the 2012 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round qualifiers. The Mid-Central College Conference (MCC) has been selected as one of nine opening round sites for the 2012 tournament and will be hosting all games on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN.
The MCC will be hosting the tournament for the first time in conference history, and will join Tabor (Kan) and South Carolina Beaufort as other first time hosts. The 5 teams who will compete in the Marion Bracket hosted by the MCC are, in order of seed, #1 Concordia University Irvine (CA), #2 Point Park University (PA), #3 Taylor University (IN), #4 Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU), and #5 Doane College (NE). The MCC is proud to be represented by Taylor and Mount Vernon, and looks forward to welcoming players, coaches, and fans from Point Park, Concordia, and Doane.

Nine host sites across the country will accommodate the 46 qualifying teams for their opening round group tournaments. Each of the nine initial sites will feature a five-team double elimination tournament. The nine site champions will travel to Lewiston, ID to compete in the 2012 Avista-NAIA World Series, hosted by Lewis-Clark State.

Play will begin at Wildcat Field in Marion on Thursday, May 10th, and continue through Monday, May 14th if necessary. To kick off the tournament game 1 will feature #4 Mount Vernon Nazarene University against #5 Doane College, Thursday, May 10 at 12:00pm. The winner of game 1 will then face #1 seed, and defending NAIA champion, Concordia (CA), Thursday at 8:00pm. The other Thursday game will be an afternoon matchup of MCC Regular Season Champions #3 Taylor University versus Point Park University (PA).

Admission will be $10 for adults, $5 for students with a valid ID, and free for children under 8 years of age. Admission is valid for a full day, and a $25 all-session pass will be available.
