JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from April 13 through 19. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Baseball Player of the Week
Ben Kennedy, Taylor
Kennedy powered No. 1 Taylor to a series sweep of Indiana Wesleyan by hitting .533 with four home runs, three doubles and 12 runs batted in. The senior shortstop also scored nine times and turned in several key plays to help TU clinch a share of the CL title.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Grant Simmons, Huntington
Simmons tossed a nine-inning shutout in RV Huntington's 4-0 win over Spring Arbor. The righty allowed just three hits, did not issue a walk and picked up five strikeouts.
Softball Player of the Week
Macie Dowd, Saint Francis
Dowd helped RV Saint Francis to a 4-1 week by hitting .600 with three doubles, one home run and seven runs batted in. In addition to having four multi-hit games, Dowd scored seven runs for the Cougars.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Macy Coan, Marian
Coan fired back-to-back complete games and allowed just one earned run over 14 innings to help No. 20 Marian past Grace and Bethel. The junior fanned nine, scattered seven hits and posted a 0.64 WHIP and a 0.50 ERA.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Yasmin Imamniyazova, Marian
Imamniyazova went 3-0 on the week for Marian, helping the Knights to a pair of team wins. The junior went 1-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Benjamin Rahine, Grace
Rahine helped Grace to an upset of No. 23 Goshen and a win over Spring Arbor. The sophomore went 2-0 at No. 2 singles for the Lancers and also collected two wins at No. 1 doubles.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Emma Weiler, Marian
Weiler helped No. 3 Marian claim the team title at the Music City Classic with rounds of 72, 70 and 70 to win the individual title.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Camron Jones, Grace
Jones turned in a pair of solid outings for Grace, turning in a top-20 showing in the Music City Classic before tying for first at the Bethel Invite. Jones played five rounds between 67 and 73, posting three sub-par scores.
Women's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Katie Woods, Marian
Woods broke her own MU record and posted the NAIA's best 1,500 time of the season with a mark of 4:21.45 and also added the NAIA's fourth-best time in the 800 this season at 2:08.83.
Women's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Alyssa Budd, Spring Arbor
Budd hit the NAIA-A standard in the long jump at the Hillsdale Relays, finishing third with a mark of 5.95 meters to set a new SAU record.
Men's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Tristan Trevino, Marian
Trevino broke MU's records in the 800 and 1,500-meters, automatically qualifying for NAIA Nationals in each. Trevino's time of 3:43.49 in the 1,500 is the NAIA's top this year, while his 800 time of 1:49.41 ranks fourth.
Men's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Drew Boggs, Saint Francis
Boggs broke the USF program record in the high jump with a mark of 2.06 meters, provisionally qualifying for NAIA Nationals and taking second place at the Georgia Tech Invite.
