JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from March 23 through 29. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Baseball Player of the Week
Hector Corona, Marian
Corona led RV Marian to a 4-1 week by hitting .538 with six extra-base hits in his 13 at bats. The sophomore also walked seven times for a .714 on-base percentage and added seven runs and six runs batted in.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Eli Loichinger, Marian
Loichinger fired a gem for RV Marian in its 7-0 win over Indiana Wesleyan. The sophomore righty fanned nine over seven scoreless frames and allowed only three hits and two walks in the complete game.
Softball Player of the Week
Abby Robakowski, Saint Francis
Robakowski stayed hot at the plate for Saint Francis by hitting .556 in six games to lead the Cougars to a 5-1 clip. Robakowski swatted three home runs and finished the week with six extra-base hits and nine runs batted in.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Emilee Underwood, Spring Arbor
Underwood went 2-0 with a 1.50 earned-run average for Spring Arbor, while helping the Cougars to wins over Grace and No. 7 Marian. In the complete game upset over MU, Underwood allowed just two earned runs in the 5-2 win.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Uliana Dotsenko, Goshen
Dotsenko went 4-0 in her matches as Goshen rolled past No. 22 Bethel and Taylor. The sophomore went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Garrett Stoltzfus, Goshen
Stoltzfus went 4-0 on the week for Goshen, winning both of his matches at No. 3 singles as well as at No. 1 doubles to help GC past RV Bethel and Taylor.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Emma Weiler, Marian
Weiler won the Lawrence Tech Collegiate and set Marian's 54-hole record with a score of 211. Weiler fired rounds of 72, 70 and 69 to lead Marian to the team title by nearly 100 strokes.
Men's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Owen Myers, Marian
Myers hit the NAIA-A standard in the 5,000-meter race walk, finishing sixth-of-12 at the Marian Open with a time of 22:58.43 to break his own school record.
Men's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Josh Forbes, Taylor
Forbes cleared a height of 4.90 meters in the pole vault at the Marian Open to automatically qualify for NAIA Nationals. The height was the best from an NAIA athlete at the meet and is the second-best in the NAIA this season.
Women's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Cece Mitchell, Grace
Mitchell shattered the Grace record and provisionally qualified for NAIA Nationals in the 10,000-meters with a winning time of 36:17.22 at the North Central Distance Fling.
Women's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Bri Nichols, Indiana Wesleyan
Nichols turned in another dominant performance, this time hitting A-standards in the discus and hammer at the Marian Open. The Indiana Wesleyan senior posted top-three marks in the NAIA this season in each event.
