JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from March 16 through 22. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Baseball Player of the Week
Keifer Wilson, Huntington
Wilson had another big week at the plate for No. 16 Huntington, sparking an offense that averaged 17.8 runs per game in a four-game series sweep. Wilson hit .600 in the four games with four home runs, three doubles and 11 runs batted in.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Noah Wathen, Indiana Wesleyan
Wathen piled up 16 strikeouts in a seven-inning shutout over Goshen. The junior lefty allowed just four hits in the complete-game victory, lifting Indiana Wesleyan to the 1-0 victory.
Softball Player of the Week
Abby Madere, Marian
Madere led No. 7 Marian to a 4-0 week by hitting .750 at the plate with three doubles, two home runs and eight runs batted in. The senior also scored eight runs, had multiple hits in each of MU's games and did not strikeout in her 12 at bats.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Avery Toole, Indiana Wesleyan
Toole tossed a pair of complete games for RV Indiana Wesleyan, going 2-0 in the circle with a 1.00 earned-run average in her 14 innings. The freshman fanned nine batters and allowed just three hits and two earned runs on the week.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Jimena Ramirez, Grace
Ramirez helped RV Grace to a 2-1 week that included an upset win over No. 12 Holy Cross. The senior went 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-1 at No. 1 doubles for the Lancers.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Garrett Stoltzfus, Goshen
Stoltzfus highlighted RV Goshen's 4-3 team win over No. 15 Marian by scoring wins at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles for the Maple Leafs.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Aaron Fulda, Taylor
Fulda shot an 11-under par score of 205 for Taylor at the Lindsey Wilson Spring Invitational to finish in third place in the tournament. The freshman posted rounds of 72, 67 and 66 to climb the leaderboards.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Shayne Lim, Taylor
Lim posted scores of 71, 75 and 74 to finish the Lindsey Wilson Spring Invitational with a three-round score of 220. That finish put Lim in second place for the event, just one stroke from taking medalist honors.
Men's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Mick Wright, Grace
Wright won the 100-meters at the Indiana Wesleyan Polar Bear Classic, posting a time of 10.55. Wright also competed in the 200-meters for the Lancers, posting an eighth-place finish.
Men's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Caleb Farr, Huntington
Farr won the pole vault at the IWU Polar Bear Classic, opening his outdoor season with a height of 4.80 meters to provisionally qualify for NAIA Nationals.
Women's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Kiana Siefert, Taylor
Siefert turned in a trio of first or second-place finishes for Taylor in her outdoor season debut. Siefert won the 100-meter hurdles and helped the Trojans take second in the 4x100-relay. The senior also scored a victory in the long jump.
Women's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Bri Nichols, Indiana Wesleyan
Nichols won the hammer at IWU's Polar Bear Classic, provisionally qualifying for NAIA Nationals with a mark of 52.94 meters.
