JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from March 2 through March 8. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Taylor Double, Marian
Double scored 16 points, including a trio of treys in the final 10 minutes to fuel No. 4 Marian to a victory over No. 6 Saint Francis in the championship game of the CL Tournament. Double ended four-of-six from deep and six-of-12 from the field.
Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Abbey McNally, Marian
McNally was a force for No. 4 Marian in a 72-65 win over No. 6 Saint Francis in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship. McNally grabbed nine defensive rebounds, three steals and one block in the title game win.
Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Ian Raasch, Grace
Raasch poured in 21 points to help second-ranked Grace edge fourth-ranked IWU, 84-82, for the CL Tournament Championship. Raasch sank seven-of-nine shots, including two-of-three looks from beyond the arc.
Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Gage Sefton, Grace
Sefton played well in No. 2 Grace's, 84-82, win over No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship game. Sefton tallied five defensive rebounds, two steals and two blocks to help propel the Lancers to a fifth-straight CL Tourney title.
Baseball Player of the Week
River Pecina, Marian
Pecina collected eight hits in nine at bats for RV Marian in a doubleheader sweep at Goshen. The freshman homered twice, doubled once, drove in six runs and scored eight times, as the Knights piled up 44 runs in the sweep.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Jared Hurlburt, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Hurlburt tossed six innings of shutout ball in a 6-2 win for Mount Vernon Nazarene over Saint Francis. The senior picked up nine strikeouts and allowed just four hits and one walk, while being credited with the victory.
Softball Player of the Week
Whitney Waddell, Indiana Wesleyan
Waddell helped RV Indiana Wesleyan to a 6-2 week in Arizona by scoring 13 runs and knocking in 12. In addition, Waddell hit .607 with one double, one triple, one grand slam and five multi-hit games.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Isabelle Beidelschies, Indiana Wesleyan
Beidelschies fired three complete-game gems for RV Indiana Wesleyan in her four outings, going 3-1 with a 1.83 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP over 23 innings. The sophomore highlighted her week with a two-hit shutout at No. 7 Northwestern.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Sofia Munoz, Indiana Wesleyan
Munoz collected four combined wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for No. 21 Indiana Wesleyan. The senior scored IWU's lone wins over North Greenville, while helping the Wildcats to a 7-0 win over Truett McConnell.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Juan Garcia-Tunon, Marian
Garcia-Tunon helped No. 20 Marian to a 4-0 week that included an upset of No. 10 SCAD-Savannah. The sophomore went 3-0 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles for the Knights.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Keara Eder, Marian
Eder won the individual title at the Walsh Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff with rounds of 77, 82 and 74. The senior fired a three-day score of 233 to also lead No. 4 Marian to the team title.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Sam Dykema, Indiana Wesleyan
Dykema played to a runner-up finish for RV Indiana Wesleyan at the Currahee Club Invitational. The junior posted rounds of 69, 68 and 74 to finish the tournament at five-under par.
