JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from February 2 through February 8. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Abbey McNally, Marian
McNally was a force for No. 5 Marian in its wins over MVNU and RV Taylor, scoring 28.0 points in each contest and sinking 21-of-31 attempts from the field for a blistering clip of 67.7 percent.
Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Abbey McNally, Marian
McNally was active on the defensive end as well for the fifth-ranked Knights, grabbing 23 rebounds in a win over RV Taylor and averaging 16.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per outing to go with her 28.0 points per game.
Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Kaden Johnson, Huntington
Johnson led RV Huntington to an upset win over No. 10 Bethel with an 18-point, 12-rebound, five-assist double-double and closed the week with 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game against a pair of top-10 opponents.
Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Kieran Granville, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Granville helped MVNU to a 2-0 week, highlighted by a stunning, 79-66, upset win over No. 1 Grace. The freshman center had 11 rebounds and a block against the Lancers and averaged 8.0 points, 11.5 boards, 7.0 defensive caroms and 2.0 blocks per victory for the Cougars.
Women's Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Katie Woods, Marian
Woods continued her stellar indoor campaign for Marian with wins in the 1,000-meters and distance-medley relay at the IWU Midwest Classic. The MU senior posted NAIA A-standards and set new Marian program records in each race.
Women's Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Nhaydia Watson, Marian
Watson won the individual title in the weight throw at the Indiana Wesleyan Midwest Classic with a personal-best distance of 17.6 meters. The effort was a top-10 mark in the NAIA this season and hit the NAIA A-standard.
Men's Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Trenton Sweet, Indiana Wesleyan
Sweet ran to wins and NAIA A-standards for Indiana Wesleyan in the 4x800-meter relay and the mile. The sophomore helped IWU's relay post the best mark in the NAIA this season at 7:40.32, while posting the seventh-best mile time at 4:12.
Men's Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Tyler Shipley, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Shipley soared over 4.9 meters to win the pole vault for MVNU at the Bob Shannon Invitational. Shipley's mark was good for the second-best height in the NAIA this season and another NAIA A-standard for the MVNU senior.
Women's Bowler of the Week
Skylar Thomas, Marian
Thomas rolled a score of 625 over three games to win the final CLB event of the season. The junior averaged 208.3 pins per game, with a high of 230.
Men's Bowler of the Week
Bobby Stephenson, Marian
Stephenson posted a game-high score of 266 and averaged 244 pins over three games to finish the final CL Bowling event with a mark of 733.
Baseball Player of the Week
Hector Corona, Marian
Corona had back-to-back multi-homer games for Marian in a doubleheader sweep of Bryan and powered the Knights to a four-game series sweep by hitting .467 with four home runs, five extra-base hits, 13 runs batted in and six runs scored.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
RJ Anglin, Huntington
Anglin moved to 2-0 on the season with a six-inning gem for Huntington in a 12-1 win over Olivet Nazarene. Anglin fanned 11 in the game, allowing just one run on two hits and two walks on the bump.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Paola Lameda, Bethel
Lameda won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and 6-3 at No. 1 doubles to help No. 22 Bethel take a 6-1 team win over Cedarville.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Benjamin Rahine, Grace
Rahine was dominant in singles and doubles play, helping No. 14 Grace to a win over NCAA DII Maryville. Rahine scored a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, before posting a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles.
