JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from September 29 through October 5. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Anna Elkin, Grace
Elkin highlighted Grace's sweep of No. 22 Marian with 15 kills in 29 swings in the upset victory. The sophomore hit .310 in the match to power the Lancer attack.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Layla Meyer, Huntington
Meyer averaged 5.6 digs per set for RV Huntington over a trio of victories. The senior libero had 30 digs in a five-set win over RV Spring Arbor and finished the week with 62 total digs.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Haley Biedenbach, Bethel
Biedenbach led Bethel to a five-set upset of No. 21 Taylor, finishing the road match with 46 assists, 20 digs, two blocks, two kills and one ace.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Carlie Grosser, Indiana Wesleyan
Grosser finished the week with six points, after recording a hat trick in No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan's 5-1 win over Huntington. The freshman forward also helped the Wildcats to a 1-0 win over No. 18 Grace to stay unbeaten in league action.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Reagan Kohler, Spring Arbor
Kohler logged back-to-back shutouts in goal for No. 14 Spring Arbor, helping the Cougars to wins over Huntington and No. 19 Taylor. The senior keeper highlighted her week with a five-save effort in a 1-0 win over TU.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Julian Vargas Talamantes, Bethel
Talamantes helped No. 5 Bethel to a 3-1 win over USF and a 5-2 victory against Goshen with five total points in the two matches. The senior scored once against Saint Francis, before adding one goal and one assist against GC.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Kadin Wolfe, Indiana Wesleyan
Wolfe was perfect in goal for No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan, posting a pair of shutouts and helping the Wildcats to a 1-0 win over No. 21 Grace and a scoreless draw with Huntington. Wolfe recorded two saves in each outing.
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Tammy Liplin, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Liplin finished seventh overall at the OWU Invite, leading Mount Vernon Nazarene at the race. The sophomore posted a time of 23:06.2.
Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Duncan Kogei, Goshen
Kogei finished 16th out of 167 at the Notre Dame Invite with a time of 24:47.3. The sophomore helped No. 20 Goshen finish ahead of multiple NCAA Division I foes at the race.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Eleanor Schuitema, Taylor
Schuitema cruised to a nine-shot title to lead No. 18 Taylor to the team crown at the Battle at Stonehenge. Schuitema shot even par for the event, shooting a three-under par score of 68 in the final round to pull away.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Camron Jones, Grace
Jones won the Battle at Stonehenge by eight shots, posting back-to-back rounds of 68 to finish the 36-hole event at six-under par.
Women's Bowler of the Week
Paige Richards, Marian
Richards won the Midwest Collegiate Championship with a total score of 1,064 and an average of 212.8 per game for Marian. Richards rolled a high game of 268 to help MU to a 13th-place team finish.
Men's Bowler of the Week
Cayleb Carey, Marian
Carey led Marian at the Midwest Collegiate Championships with a score of 1,037. The senior helped MU finish 13th at the event with his 28th place finish.
