JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from October 14 through 20. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Eva Joldersma, Indiana Wesleyan
Joldersma posted a sizzling hitting percentage of .471 in two wins for No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan while averaging 4.7 kills per set. Joldersma had 33 kills in 55 swings in those two matches and posted double-doubles in each.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Jaelyn Tang, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Tang highlighted a pair of wins for No. 15 Mount Vernon Nazarene with 17 digs in a sweep of Huntington and 22 digs in a four-set win over No. 25 Marian. For the week, Tang averaged 5.6 digs per set.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Abbigail Porter, Indiana Wesleyan
Porter turned in two more strong showings for No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan, helping the Wildcats maintain their lead in the CL standings with 13.1 assists per set in two victories. Porter had 55 assists in a four-set win over USF and added 37 in a sweep of Bethel.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Layla Brown, Marian
Brown continued her torrid stretch for No. 13 Marian, leading the Knights to shutout wins over Bethel and USF. The senior forward scored three times and had an assist in a 5-0 win over BU and added another helper in MU's 3-0 victory against Saint Francis.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Reagan Kohler, Spring Arbor
Kohler recorded a pair of 1-0 shutout victories in the net for No. 8 Spring Arbor. The junior posted two saves in a win at RV Grace and added six more in a win at RV Taylor.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Cameron O'Brien, Marian
O'Brien led RV Marian's, 3-2, upset of No. 9 Bethel by scoring twice for the Knights in the contest. O'Brien scored on both of his shots in the match and netted the game-winner.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Matteo Conci, Grace
Conci did not allow a goal in 180 minutes of work for RV Grace, helping the Lancers to a 1-0 victory over RV Spring Arbor and a 2-0 win over RV Huntington. In those two clean sheets, Conci tallied a total of nine saves.
