JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from March 18 through 24. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Baseball Player of the Week
Darien Pugh, Indiana Wesleyan
Pugh led RV Indiana Wesleyan to three wins with a .412 average, three home runs and six runs batted in. Pugh also swiped four bags in five tries and scored seven runs in the five contests.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Tyler Papenbrock, Huntington
Papenbrock fired a scoreless seven innings at Bethel in an eventual, 8-5, Huntington victory. The junior hurler fanned 12 and allowed just two hits while taking the win on the bump.
Softball Player of the Week
Brylee Bilger, Indiana Wesleyan
Bilger kept her hot bat for No. 17 Indiana Wesleyan, belting two more home runs and collecting 12 more RBI for the Wildcat attack. Bilger ended the week hitting .375, bolstered by going six-for-nine in a sweep of Taylor.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Olivia Stunkel, Marian
Stunkel went the distance in each of her starts for No. 7 Marian, going 2-0 with a 1.17 earned-run average and a 0.83 WHIP over 12 innings. Stunkel fanned 10 and allowed just 10 runners to reach by hit or walk.
Men's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Jaden Haldeman, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Haldeman raced to a win in the 400-meter hurdles for MVNU at the Blizzard Buster. Haldeman crossed with a time of 53.66 to automatically qualify for NAIA Nationals.
Men's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Isaiah Tipping, Marian
Tipping opened his outdoor campaign with wins and A-standard performances in the discus and hammer for Marian at the Montreat Open. Tipping posted marks of 52.58 meters in the discus and 60.81 meters in the hammer.
Women's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Katie Woods, Marian
Woods posted three wins, three NAIA standards and one school record for Marian at the Montreat Open. Woods won the 1,500, 800 and 4x800-relay for the Knights, breaking the MU record in the 1,500.
Women's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Arriana Benjamin, Marian
Benjamin picked up where she left off in the indoor season, opening outdoor with wins in the shot put, discus and hammer. Benjamin hit A-standards in the shot and discus and posted a B-standard in the hammer.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Jaumee Riera Galindo, Spring Arbor
Galindo was 3-1 atop the SAU lineup in two team contests. The freshman went unbeaten in the two matches at No. 1 singles and split two matches at No. 1 doubles for the Cougars.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Victoria Herrington, Spring Arbor
Herrington went a combined 4-0 for Spring Abor in a pair of matches. Herrington went 2-0 at singles and 2-0 in doubles, while playing the No. 2 slot in the lineup in each for the Cougars.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Kyle Kasitz, Taylor
Kasitz topped the individual leaderboard at the Purgatory Intercollegiate for RV Taylor, firing scores of 75 and 71 to tie atop the 65-individual field. The performance of Kasitz helped TU finish third at the 11-team event and tops among NAIA foes.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Emma Weiler, Marian
Weiler topped the field at the Heritage Hills Invite for No. 10 Marian. The freshman shot rounds of 72, 74 and 75 over the 54 holes to lead the field of 44.
