JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from January 15 through 21. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Taylor Westgate, Taylor
Westgate dominated the paint to help Taylor pick up a pair of victories in league play. The senior averaged 16.5 points, 20.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals in the wins and tied TU's single-game record with 25 boards in a home win over Huntington.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Drew Lutz, Bethel
Lutz reached the 2,000-career point mark and went on to post 27.0 points, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game over two wins for No. 23 Bethel. The senior guard poured in 38 points in a 74-66 win at SAU and shot 46.5 percent from the floor for the week.
Women's Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Noel VanderWall, Taylor
VanderWall opened her 2024 indoor campaign by competing at the Butler Invitational against NCAA Division I and II foes. The Taylor sophomore finished third-of-22 in the mile and automatically qualified for Nationals with a time of 5:03.92.
Women's Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Gina Butz, Marian
Butz won the high jump at the Indiana Tech Invitational with an A-standard height of 1.68 meters. The Marian junior also competed in the triple jump for the first time in her career and took fifth.
Men's Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Jaden Haldeman, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Haldeman notched a pair of NAIA A-standard times for Mount Vernon Nazarene at the Ashland Invite, doing so in the 60-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay. Haldeman finished top-five in each event, going 8.2 in the 60-hurdles and 3:17.6 in the relay.
Men's Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Isaiah Tipping, Marian
Tipping broke his own school record and improved his No. 1 ranking in the NAIA with a mark of 20.36 meters in the weight throw for Marian at the Indiana Tech Invitational. Tipping easily topped the field of 25 competitors with his record-setting performance.
Women's Bowler of the Week
Leeah Wade, Bethel
Wade finished sixth-of-135 bowlers at the Lynn Jordan MSC in Louisville. The Bethel sophomore rolled scores of 236-215-188-223-209 for a total of 1,071 at the event.
