JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from October 9 through 15. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Maddy Payne, Bethel
Payne helped No. 20 Bethel to a pair of 3-0 sweeps in non-league play, hitting .455 in the two matches and averaging 4.2 kills per set. In addition to posting 25 kills to just five errors, Payne added four blocks in each contest.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Emma Lyons, Marian
Lyons helped RV Marian to a sweep of Huntington by collecting 20 digs and six assists in the lone match of the week for the Knights.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Lindsay Springer, Taylor
Springer was on-point in Taylor's four-set win over Grace, tossing up 46 assists to surpass 1,500 for her career. The sophomore transfer also added four digs, three blocks and one kill in the league victory.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Savannah Zambory, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Zambory highlighted MVNU's two-win week, leading the Cougars to a 2-0 win at Huntington by scoring both goals in the contest.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Mycheala Johnson, Marian
Johnson posted a shutout in goal for No. 8 Marian in its 0-0 draw with No. 2 Spring Arbor. The sophomore goalie was busy in the match, posting seven saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Aaron Jolly, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Jolly scored one goal in each of MVNU's shutout victories on the week, helping the Cougars to wins over Goshen and Huntington. In the 4-0 blanking of HU, Jolly also collected one assist.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Aaron Carr, Indiana Wesleyan
Carr allowed just one goal against 13 saves for No. 18 Indiana Wesleyan, helping the Wildcats to a 1-1 draw with No. 10 Bethel and a 3-0 shutout of Taylor.
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Alex Ebetino, Saint Francis
Ebetino topped the field at the Jenna Strong Invite, finishing the 5k course with a time of 18:10 to help Saint Francis finish third-of-29 teams at the event.
Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Blake Hipkiss, Marian
Hipkiss was the top NAIA performer at the USI Angel Mounds Invite, helping Marian finish sixth overall in the 19-team race. Hipkiss turned in a time of 25:24 and finished 16th-of-174 athletes.
