JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from October 1 through 8. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Martina Demarchi, Indiana Wesleyan
Demarchi played a pivotal role in No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan's offense during four more 3-0 victories for the unbeaten Wildcats. The senior had 15 kills and 11 digs in a sweep of No. 13 Columbia and averaged 3.4 kills, 3.3 digs and 0.6 blocks per set in the four matches.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Marissa Mullins, Indiana Wesleyan
Mullins put down 20 total blocks for No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan during four victories. Mullins posted at least five blocks in three of the four sweeps and added 25 kills on a .489 percentage for the week.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Abbigail Porter, Indiana Wesleyan
Porter and the unbeaten Wildcats rolled on with four more sweeps. This time the sophomore setter dished out 12.2 assists per set for No. 3 IWU, and highlighted the week with 42 assists and 11 digs in a 3-0 victory over No. 13 Columbia.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Audrey Lerch, Bethel
Lerch registered a hat trick in Bethel's 4-0 win against Saint Francis. The senior put five of her six shots on target, with three of them finding the back of the net.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Jael Schubert, Bethel
Schubert posted a shutout in goal for Bethel during its 4-0 victory over Saint Francis. Schubert picked up four saves in the contest.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Martim Sequeira, Grace
Sequeira had a part in all three of No. 4 Grace's goals in a 3-0 Lancer win over Marian. The senior forward tallied two goals and one assist in the contest to keep the Lancers unbeaten in league play.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Ruam Barbosa, Goshen
Barbosa had a busy night in goal for Goshen, racking up 11 saves against No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan to help preserve a 1-1 draw.
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Addi Dewey, Indiana Wesleyan
Dewey led the way for No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan in its team win at the Bethel Invite. The sophomore topped the field of 157 runners with a time of 18:41.
Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Braden Sweet, Indiana Wesleyan
Sweet scored his third-straight individual race win for No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan, crossing with a time of 24:48 to help the Wildcats secure the team title at the Bethel Invite.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Andrew Ilett, Marian
Ilett went 2-0 at No. 4 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles for RV Marian in the CL Tournament, leading Marian past Goshen and No. 21 Huntington and into the championship match.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Maria Way, Indiana Wesleyan
Way fueled No. 19 Indiana Wesleyan's trip to the CL Tournament Championship match by going 2-0 at No. 2 and 3 singles and 2-0 at No. 2 and 3 doubles for the Wildcats.
