JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from August 21 through 27. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Eva Joldersma, Indiana Wesleyan
Joldersma powered No. 16 Indiana Wesleyan to four wins against Top-25 foes with at least 10 kills in each contest. The sophomore averaged 4.1 kills per set on a .275 percentage and added 2.6 digs and 0.6 blocks.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Marta Zambetti, Indiana Wesleyan
Zambetti collected 15 total blocks in four matches for No. 16 Indiana Wesleyan, leading the Wildcats to a 4-0 showing against Top-25 teams. The senior had at least four blocks in three of the matches, including a career-high six blocks in a win over No. 14 Columbia.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Abbigail Porter, Indiana Wesleyan
Porter was at the center of the offense for No. 16 Indiana Wesleyan in four wins over nationally-ranked foes. The setter averaged 11.0 assists, 2.5 digs, 0.7 blocks and 0.5 aces per set, helping the Wildcats drop just one set in the four matches.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Sophia Yoder, Goshen
Yoder scored both goals for Goshen in its 2-1 win over Cornerstone in the lone match of the week for the Maple Leafs. The freshman forward scored on two of her three shots in the win.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Avery Sluss, Indiana Wesleyan
Sluss helped No. 14 Indiana Wesleyan to a pair of scoreless draws against Top-10 opponents. The freshman goalie piled up 14 saves in the 180 minutes of work against No. 7 UT Southern and No. 8 Aquinas.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Martim Sequeira, Grace
Sequeira scored three times and added one assist to play a role in four of No. 16 Grace's six goals in a pair of wins. The senior forward assisted one score in a 2-0 win over No. 13 Oklahoma Wesleyan and netted a hat trick in a 4-0 defeat of Governors State.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Matteo Conci, Grace
Conci led No. 16 Grace to a pair of clean sheet victories, highlighted with a 2-0 win over No. 13 Oklahoma Wesleyan. Conci grabbed four saves in that Top-25 clash and ended the week with two wins, five saves and no goals allowed in 180 minutes of work.
